Sparkle season is finally over (no offence). I mean, I’m here for Christmas cakes, family parties, champagne on tap and more cheese boards, buffets and selection boxes than you can even begin to imagine. In fact, I’d go as far as to say Christmas is my favourite time of year! However, as much as I love it, there is one little thing I’m not all that into; sparkle domination.
Come mid-November you can guarantee every single high street store is already fit to burst, stocked up with nothing but sparkles, sequins, shimmer and shiny things. Now, I’m usually the biggest anti-glitter girl around, but this year I’m not gonna lie, a few things caught my eye, in particular, the sequined flares. I mean, they were/are/will always be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
I have to admit that after months of dreaming, I did make a slightly shiny, silver, sparkly themed purchase; the Mimosa Metallic Ankle Boots from Topshop. (They’ve sold out, but these are almost identical & super cheap, grab ‘em while you can!)
Now I know they’re no glitter bomb explosion, but these boots are certainly the closest I’ve ever come to buying into the sparkle season trend, and I’m not gonna lie, I absolutely love them!
But anyway, that’s all very much besides the point, my question is, now that sparkle season is officially over, all the décor is down and Christmas carols are no longer gracing our ears, is it still acceptable to take the trends into a rather, let’s face it, dull January? I’m not entirely sure either way, like maybe I should be over them already? But I’m just not and you know what? I’m ok with that.
The problem is, how am I supposed to style them now? I don’t have the excuse to over dress on a daily basis simply because it’s ‘Christmas’. So, can you make shiny silver shoes casual? Well, it was worth a try!
I tried teaming the boots with my all time fave Topshop Moto Jeans, and my black loop detail Primark jumper, which felt like such a casual option. Personally, I think it kinda worked?! I have to admit, the boots do dress it up a lil, but oh well!
Far more casual than my Christmas alternatives? Yes. Acceptable for dull January? Absolutely.
Can’t blame a girl for tryin’
