10 Insta-worthy Places in Amsterdam

Rather than boring you all with a step by step guide to all the standard touristy places in Amsterdam, or a diary of my magical trip, I thought I’d cut to the chase and skip to what we all really care about: Instagram.

Ok so disclaimer, every single one of these places involves food. But my life revolves around food and if it looks good, it’s sure to taste good. From brunches to bars, I’ve got you and your insta covered…

1. MOOK Pancakes

The BEST pancakes I’ve ever tasted.  What better way to spend an afternoon in Amsterdam than indulging in delicious pancakes in the most aesthetically pleasing, plant filled surroundings? Thank me later.

  2. Bagels & Beans

Dotted allover the city, you’re never far from a Bagels & Beans.  I discovered the chain the first time I visited, and have been obsessed ever since.

The buzzing little traditional cafés are everything I love about Amsterdam, bursting with locals, serving the best bagels, smoothies and salads, with recipe combinations that sound so wrong but taste so right.

3. Salsa Shop

Salsa Shop

I absolutely LOVE salsa. I eat it straight from the jar on a regular basis. In fact I could happily live off salsa and diet coke for the rest of my life, so visiting this place was a no-brainer.

Once you’ve chosen your burrito/tacos/wraps/rice and toppings combo, you’re faced with the toughest life decision, like, ever. THE biggest selection of salsa you’ve ever seen. And simultaneously the best thing you’ve ever seen.

The cute cactus decor is just an added bonus.

4. Pluk

THE most perfectly pretty, instagrammable place I’ve ever been. From their mini shop in the entrance, to the huge plants and picture perfect plates, this place is every instagrammers dream. Amongst the perfect pale pink hues, unicorn features and marble surfaces, lay THE tastiest cake and coffee selection ever! Plus, they’re actually pretty healthy, so eat away!

5. Terpentijn

Ok so I can’t actually take credit for this find, it was my lil sis who spotted it and insisted we gave it a go. For once in her life, she was right.

Surprisingly, it was the most INCREDIBLE food I’ve ever tasted, like we literally sat there repeating that over and over. It was THAT good. The wine was pretty cheap too, hence the rubbish pic. You’ll just have to take my word on this one!

6. Koala Republic

Never have you ever seen two lil 5”3 gals more excited about climbing than we were, upon spotting this huge dining set. Easily pleased, I know.

Hello down there

This super chic café was over flowing with effortlessly cool locals casually going about their Wednesday afternoon work load, with plants hanging from the ceiling above them and platform seats with swings for foot rests. We couldn’t have stood out any more. None the less, it’s an interior dream.

Not to mention the mouth watering menus. We shared the sweet potato waffles, and a granola bowl, because we wanted both but learnt the hard way that we have eyes bigger than our belly. It’s a hard life.

7. De Hallen

de hallen

Possibly one of the coolest, quirkiest places I’ve ever been. Wander around the arrays of food and drink stalls for just a couple of minutes and be guaranteed to find your food fantasies.

Explore the many levels, areas and food genres until you’re lost amongst the hidden gems, including the weird swimming pool/ball pit thingy and, of course, the photo booth.

8. Dirty Chicken

Graffiti covered interiors, quirky cocktails and the perfect hangover menu. If you’re looking for a quick escape/save haven after wandering around the red light district, then this is your place.

9. The Hoxton

The Hoxton

I think this one kinda speaks for itself? Everyone’s heard of the Hoxton and what it has to offer.

If you’re looking for a unique, relaxed vibe, with effortlessly chic retro interiors, then go to the place where all the cool kids gather: The Hoxton.

In case it’s not already insta-worthy enough, get snappin’ in the vintage photo booth.

10. Roses by SAL

Every LED light lovers dream. If you’re looking for an indie little back street bar, covered in edgy LED lights, stripped brick walls and boasting a cocktail menu longer than your arm, then this is the place for you.

I need to get to Amsterdam, but I only have 12 months left in Europe before I move to New Zealand for a year! So it might be a while until I get around to it haha

It reminds me a lot of Copenhagen, a city I absolutely adore! Probably because the Danish just stole all their architecture haha
